Mow When Dry:  One of the golden rules of lawn care during rainy weather is to mow when the grass is dry. Mowing wet grass can compact the soil and damage the delicate grass blades, leading to long-term issues.

Adjust Mower Height: During rainy periods, raise your mower blades to a higher setting. This prevents cutting the grass too short, which can stress it out and make it more susceptible to damage. Improve Drainage: Effective drainage is key to preventing waterlogging, which can suffocate your lawn. Consider aerating the soil and adding organic matter to improve soil structure and enhance drainage capabilities. Compacted soil will cause water to pool on the surface, an aeration will loosen your soil and allow water to penetrate deeper for better drainage and flood prevention.

Watch for Disease: Rainy weather creates favorable conditions for fungal diseases like brown patches and moldy growth. Keep a vigilant eye on your lawn and promptly address any signs of disease. Red thread and lawn rust are common lawn diseases that we’ve seen this spring. These diseases can be easily treated with regular fungicide applications.

Avoid Walking on Wet Grass: Walking on soggy grass can compact the soil and damage the turf. To preserve the integrity of your lawn, try to minimize foot traffic until the grass has dried out. Aerate your soil to fix any compaction that has occurred.
