“Students from Altoona got to do some hands-on learning by planting some trees ahead of Arbor Day. A representative for the City of Altoona said every year the city participates in the holiday with some help from the school district. Middle schoolers got a helping hand from Green Oasis to plant two honey locust trees near Altoona High School.”

Christmas Decor, the Christmas decorating business with over 300 units, spread holiday cheer last Christmas in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, partnering with local lawn care business Green Oasis.
It has almost been 5 years since 3 girl scouts and one of their mothers were fatally struck by a vehicle in Lake Hallie.
A memorial for the victims; Autumn Helgeson, Jayna Kelley, Haylee Hickle, and Sara Jo Schneider, was created last year.
Now Green Oasis, a lawn care service in Lake Hallie, is helping to make the memorial a place for anyone to remember the lives lost.
“Spring-like temperatures and social distancing leave plenty of time for gardening. But flexing out the green thumb may be more difficult this year as greenhouses are currently not open to the public. Workers at Green Oasis in Lake Hallie said they’ve had to find new ways to reach customers. The greenhouse is now making deliveries and offering curbside pick-up after receiving orders online…”
“In the pre-dawn hours of Sept. 11, 2009, Wayne and Julie Bollinger stood on a bike path watching years of their labor go up in flames. A fire had consumed their Lake Hallie business, Greener Grass Systems, and an adjoining residence. Though no one was seriously injured, the property was a total loss…”
“The National Association of Landscape Professionals (formerly PLANET), announced the winners of its annual Community Stewardship Awards at its Renewal & Remembrance / Legislative Day on the Hill Banquet Dinner held in Washington, D.C. on Monday, July 20. The awards are given to NALP member companies that have demonstrated their commitment to volunteerism and community service over the course of a minimum of a three year period, helping to showcase the impact that landscape and lawn care organizations have on the community…”

Several members of the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) were recently honored with an MNLA Award for Excellence in Landscape. Among those honored through the Landscape Awards program was Ben Graf of Green Oasis in River Falls.
A panel of practicing professionals in landscape education, landscape architecture, and horticulture judged each entry based upon quality of design, appropriateness of materials used, and the superiority of the workmanship. Entries are not judged against each other, but rather against standards of excellence in the green industry.
The Woodbury Landscape & Decking Project was noted by the judges for “Attention to detail and quality execution of the design. The clients got exactly what they were shown in the design. The creative solutions to challenging goals and site requirements, combined with a high degree of quality work set this project apart. The project is clearly an award winner.”
“We got our cold snap a little early,” says Wayne Bollinger of Green Oasis.
Even after an early snowfall blanketed the Chippewa Valley, Bollinger says it is important to get those leaves off the ground.
“You’re not going to get off that easy and not have to rake up,” he says. “It’s pretty detrimental if that cover is left on especially if we start getting some warmer weather and some sun. That turf grass still needs some photosynthesis and needs to store some energy for winter.”
Adversity struck Greener Grass Systems (now doing business as Green Oasis) back in 2009 when a fire had consumed their Lake Hallie business. The property was a total loss, but owners Wayne & Julie Bollinger stood by their commitment to serve their communities and rebuilt their way to earning Eau Claire Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year in 2015.
